The Answers are Correct, Your Just Asking the Wrong Questions

“A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer.” ~ Bruce Lee

It is a great travesty that the plague of curiosity that defined one’s childhood does not translate into adulthood.

Picture this. Two people who have been in a committed relationship for three years are having a conversation. Two questions are asked.

“Do you love me?”

“Why do you love me?”

Which is the better question? I’ll let you decide.

The power of the right question is two-fold. It has the ability to take an individual from mental fogginess to pristine clarity in the space of one breath and it can unlock deeply hidden truths/fears. Marilyn French said “Fear is a question. What are you afraid of and why? Our fears are a treasure house of self-knowledge if we explore them.”

Crafting a great question is not an easy task but it’s not impossible. It takes practice. A better question should;

  • Inspire authentic progress
  • Lead to additional questions
“If you do not know how to ask the right question, you discover nothing.” ~ W. Edwards Deming

If knowledge is power, questions are the power generator. The quality of your life is in direct correlation to the quality of the questions you are willing to ask yourself. There are no right answers, but there are definitely better questions.

Here are five better questions to get you started.

1. If you woke up tomorrow with no fear, what would you do first?

2. When did you last laugh so much, it hurt?

3. When did you last say thank you and sincerely mean it?

4. Are you living your life, or having a life?

5. What learning from today are you taking into tomorrow?

Whether you want a job, clarification on a relationship or to find your life’s purpose — it all requires asking better questions.

Decide today to start asking better questions. Questions that build your mental fortitude and create the groundwork for optimal performance. Life is a conversation that’s dying to have a chat with you. Make it a great one and ask it better questions.

Here’s to provocative, thoughtful, better questions. The audacity to live the truths they reveal. And the indefatigable energy to keep asking them.

Stay hungry. Stay curious.
