There is a certain paradox related to the Internet that still puzzles me. It might seem that with a speed connection sufficient to deliver high-quality video streams it should have significantly increased my ability to watch movies, TV-shows, and series I like. Meanwhile, I still haven’t found any legitimate service that would provide me with the wide selection of media content I’m used to. Well, except torrents.

In fact, this is a real problem. Services like Netflix were supposed to facilitate this link between the producers of media content and its consumers, but due to the specifics of this field, subscription-based streaming providers don’t make a profit. In fact, Netflix, in order to show some profit, now produces its own content getting in direct competition with media producers. The situation now is that an average Internet user in order to get access to all the media-content that might interest her, needs to either subscribe to a dozen separate streaming services, paying a pile of money, or to subscribe to some major streaming provider like Netflix and accept the fact that her choice will be limited by Netflix’s selection. On top of that, to complicate the situation even further, there are regional restrictions. It’s no surprise that people just prefer to use torrents. At least it’s simpler.

White Rabbit is a service created by Allan R. Milligan — a veteran of the media industry and award-winning film producer, andHengameh Panahi whose films won many prestigious awards at film festivals, including Oscars and Golden Palms. The platform is going to consolidate access for the end user to all the numerous media-content providers through a single subscription. For the Internet user, it will look like a simple browser plug-in, powerful enough to provide access to any streaming service, including independent filmmaking and media companies, or literally any provider of media content. All the content available via the platform is organized through the “Rabbit Hole” — a user’s library that in addition to providing the highest quality version of the streamed content, also has other interesting features like offering access to film extras and promoting interaction between fans and filmmakers through forums, VR and AR screenings etc. The platform’s architecture based on blockchain and smart contracts facilitates direct payments from the user to the filmmaker or media company and guarantees reliability and transparency of transactions. In short, White Rabbit offers a business model, that is capable to eventually establish the bridge between the media producers and consumers and be profitable at the same time.

White Rabbit — a browser plug-in that allows you to legally look at anybody in the network movie.

The solution is based on smart contracts, thanks to which the money is removed from the work of the system.

Current problems

  • Too few filmmakers make money from the digital distribution of their content.
  • Revenues can not be calculated correctly and they have to wait a long time.
  • In no case should pirates and fans be considered as a whole. Fans are forced to break the law to see their favorite movie or TV series, because they can not pay for content.
  • There is less content choice, because private server services. Many users can not afford this.
  • The paradox of digital distribution — the lack of competition in global digital dissemination slows down the innovation of the user interface. Nevertheless, more subscriber services mean more logins and passwords for users.

Decision

Users watch their favorite movies or series in streaming video mode, and smart contracts take payment from users’ balances and immediately transfer them to content owners. Using blockchain technology, rightholders also ensure full financial transparency of their revenues. Thus, White Rabbit releases creators and fans of video content from unprofitable rules of closed server platforms.

Advantages

  • unlimited choice of legal content for viewers;
  • material incentives for an innovative streaming industry; A robust business model for digital content distribution;
  • fair and transparent distribution of income from digital management of producers and content investors.
  • “Blocking and smart contracts guarantee that payment for the film without delay will be sent to the rightholders.” The solution restores fairness throughout the content distribution industry, solves the problem of video piracy and the availability of content, greatly simplifies the user experience, but most importantly creates the basis for a truly competitive environment, “Milligan’s post said.

By eliminating the mediators, any user can be legally allowed to view the content, they believe in White Rabbit. In addition, each movie viewed will automatically be added to the user library, which is called a “Rabbit Hole” in the company.

In addition to Milligan, the project team includes an experienced film distributor and a member of the Oscar committee Hengameh Panahi, as well as an experienced system architect and programmer Alexander Yarushin. The company believes that White Rabbit will be able to make a significant contribution to the fight against video piracy.

Choice, price and convenience

The system uses WRT (White Rabbit Token) — the ERC20-compatible token for the transactions within the platform. Starting from November 2017, 40% of WRT tokens are available for sale. The company is expecting to attract from $5,000,000 to $10,000,000 in investments that will be used to improve and expand its ecosystem.
