How does retention affects App Store rank of a game?

My first free iOS game has launched on August 6, in Turkey App Store and it was advertised on Instagram.

First day 950 people, second day 423 people came from ads.

Most new users came from ads. Last day is 11 August.

But the main thing that shows the spark of the success (I hope it’ll be a success) is active users graph.

Daily active users of the app. Last day is 11 August.

Now I’ll show you another evidence that it gets its players really engaged.

Numbers on top represent how many days after install users opened the game.

So, what does it all mean?

It hit most popular 5 free puzzle games and most popular 5 free board games on its third day, top 50 of free games on its fourth day.

But, still didn’t get featured by App Store which indicates installs play a big role, too. Though I think I can give this advice for developers who have no idea about publishing the game:

Retention rules. Keep your players in your game.

I wrote and will update this story because when I google about this topic, it all seems so blurry. Here we go, let the numbers speak.

Ps. please leave a comment if you have suggestions about driving more user downloads for this little but engaging game.

UPDATE: Second week is written here.
