Import Active Directory’s Users and Groups into ServiceNow via LDAP

If you haven’t integrated ServiceNow with your LDAP, follow this link: https://medium.com/@mvsabhishek/ldap-integration-of-active-directory-and-servicenow-via-ssl-c38aef37947b

SETTING UP SCHEDULED LOADS: (in ServiceNow)

The related links on the LDAP Server form are self-explanatory. We can use browse to view the Users and Groups in the DC we have provided. Kindly check it out. Once the new LDAP Server is setup, Data Sources are automatically generated.

  1. Go to System LDAP → Scheduled Loads. Click on new.
  2. Give it a relevant name and select the Data Source. For example, LDAP Server with name LDAPSer will have its data sources named something like LDAPSer/Users.
  3. Select the period and conditions for scheduling importing the load.
  4. We can also enter scripts to execute before and after the scheduled import.

MAKING MANUAL IMPORTS:

To import Users or Groups manually from the Active Directory Domain Server, follow these steps:

  1. Go to System LDAP on ServiceNow → Data Sources.
  2. Click on the data source to import from.
  3. In the form, under related links, click on Load All Records. To test the process, we can use Test Load 20 Records.
  4. The state will change from running to complete if the connection is established and the correct DC is provided.
  5. There are quite a few options on the page:
  6. Click on Import Sets to view the list of import sets related to the data source.
  7. Click on Loaded Data to view the newly imported data into the import set.
  8. Click on Create Transform Map to create a new transform map to map a ServiceNow table with the imported data.
  9. Click on Run transform to transform the loaded imported set using the related transform map.
  10. Click on run transform to load the imported data into the ServiceNow tables. After transforming, check the sys_user (or the table used in the transform) to see if it has been updated.

The process of importing is simple. The data is loaded into an import set from the data source via LDAP over SSL. The import set can be modified by using a transform map. Once the transform map is created/modified, the fields in the import set are mapped to the table(s) in ServiceNow. Then, run the transform to update the table(s) in ServiceNow. With Scheduled Loads, the import process is automated.
