AWS instance in Sydney region has latency of around 30ms, while a DO server in Singapore has a latency of around ~300ms. It is a 10 fold increase in latency.

I strongly believe that DO needs to establish a datacenter here in Australia. They have great service but latency is just terrible compared to other providers in Australia (e.g. AWS).

There is a thread (https://digitalocean.uservoice.com/forums/136585-digitalocean/suggestions/3619335-i-know-they-cost-a-fortune-but-i-would-love-an-au) on “User Voice” for digital ocean to spawn an Australian data center. The thread has (at the moment of writing this 4486 votes, incl. 3 mine).

These days, building fast and performant apps and web apps is a must. Making a really fast and performant application and then degrading user experience due to latency doesn’t seem like a good option to me. Please give DO a nudge and cast your vote (if you haven’t done already). Hopefully we can get enough upvotes for them to seriously consider Australian DC.
