Game of thrones is an immensely popular television show on HBO that has many people talking. You must have heard someone at one point reference this show, even if you didn’t understand it. For those that don’t have any clue as to what this show is about, it may seem daunting to jump in when it’s already in it’s seventh season. Or those who’re interested in checking it out, but hesitant about dropping money on an HBO subscription. Basic Summary

Game of Thrones is set in a medieval fantasy world. It focuses on the political struggles between noble families vying for power on the continent of Westeros. These struggles include battles, alliances, backstabbing, and all out war. All of this is done in hope of becoming the King of Westeros, and Claiming the iron throne. As for the fantasy portion, this includes dragons, magic, and enemies that clash with the more realistic aspects of the show. Overall, it’s a sprawling adventure across a well developed world filled with secrets and surprises.

Intended Audience

Firstly, this show is meant for a mature audience. It included scenes of violence and gore, as well as nudity. It is targeted for those who are interested in a medieval setting, those who aren’t may find it tiring. Also, this show requires a certain amount of thought and attention. You must be able to keep up with a plethora of characters and stories, or you will soon feel yourself lost. This is not a show for those that have to have things explained clearly to them. You must be attentive as missing a single scene may very well leave you out of crucial knowledge.

The characteristics that most reviewers note are the long list of deep interesting characters, and the engrossing story lines between them that keep viewers guessing. It has been heralded by sites such as The Hollywood Reporter and The Rolling Stone have included it high in their respective lists of the greatest TV shows of all time.
