This question is also apt for those practicing Design Thinking. I see a parallel. Much of what is considered Design Thinking is industrial design plus industrial engineering. Industrial engineering in particular, has for decades been the basis to solve complex problems using a repertoire of optimization methods in conjunction with human factors, industrial psychology, design of experiments, etc. Today, many people apply a Formica layer of design. They hardly go deep.
