Any computer without a rich input device is only a consumer device — a device built for consuming the information from external sources. Once you start to create something you must have a rich input device. That’s why the author suggests adding a keyboard for programming. If you want to write a paper or develop an application or compose music you must have something that makes this efficient: a keyboard is the usual solution. Today, phones are good for voice and limited typing, but have some serious inefficiencies beyond that.
