So glad you are “thinking” about this as it sometimes seems to me that so few people really do, and they tend to attack first and ask questions later (if at all).
Gender… that what we each are born with (our core personality) is as substantial and as unchanging as the earth we all walk on
Gender Expression… wearing pink or blue, hairstyle, clothes, etc. is superficial and fluid, and as changeful as the seasons
People should not conflate the two, or confuse either with:
Sex… that what we each are born with (our reproductive capacity), and which so far remains outside our realm to substantially change (we are only able to change the secondary sex characteristics)
I’m not an activist or a crusader, and would never try to force anyone to call me anything they were uncomfortable with… however, do know, that I have lived as trans, successfully (career and family), since the 80’s, and I speak from a place of knowledge; inside, first-hand knowledge as it were: very much unlike either Simone de Beauvoir or Germaine Greer, who can only speak from a position outside looking in. Despite this, they (and other cisgender writers) never appear to get tired of trying new theories to explain and/or confound us.
I will not change the world, except through my influence with young people; and it is they, our children and those young people we protect, who will change this world; and if I have my way, for the betterment of all.
