Yes, indeed. It usually depends, I guess. Like you said, a lot of people read short pieces and go on to the next read and maybe because a majority of writing comes in this length. So I guess a longer read would need something that nudges in the same direction, telling the reader what they are getting into, that way having them dedicate their attention to the piece accordingly.

Lonform pieces do actually get higher reads, but that’s with making the piece stand out not only in writing but visually as well (also rarely in fiction, though)
