That was one heck of a rabbit hole you dove into. Are you honestly blaming a father who had a gambling and alcohol addiction on Capitalism (an economic system)?

I understand you were taught oppressed vs. oppressor and obviously subscribe your thoughts to it, but the economic system isn’t your oppressor.

If your mother beat you, than that means you had a bad mother. If your father had a gambling and alcohol addiction, that means your father was channeling his money and time into something that has the probability to keep your family poor.

It sounds like your parents were never meant to be together. Either she got pregnant accidentally or they attempted to keep their marriage going by having children. In either case, they were toxic for each other.

Your mother was right for leaving him, but it wasn’t the economic system that gave you a difficult childhood. It was a man not ready for the task to take care of others, and a woman who was either disappointed in a man or who hated each other. Any other economic system would have had the same outcome, whether or not your father worked for a paycheck or he worked for the state and lined up for food rations and had you children sit in the government healthcare waiting room.
