Great article! Thanks for recognizing and acknowledging the contributions of technical communications professionals. I think it’s safe to say that the better your tech writing team the more the business can take it for granted —good writers make the work seem easy. Of course, writing is such a tiny part of what technical communications professionals actually do. We typically deliver written content because it’s much faster and cheaper, though not easy, to produce and maintain, especially compared to graphics and video production. But, there is so much time spent just trying to figure out what content to create, who it’s for, and what the consumer is trying to accomplish. Then there’s the deep technical work of embedded content, such as UI text, error messages, and API doc that requires a lot of collaboration with several people and also a different approach to the writing. Good technical communications professionals, particularly those who are passionate about the work, will always be in high demand.
