Why doing what you ‘should’ wont bring you happiness

Surely there is more to life than this?

So. You’ve done everything ‘the right way’.

You graduated highschool, chose a respectable career path with good earning potential, studied at university and started working in your chosen profession. You’re living in a nice place, have some nice things and take nice holidays.

From the outside in, your life looks pretty perfect.

So whats the problem? Why do you have this uneasy feeling? Like surely this can’t be all there is.

But you were diligent in following the well trodden path to ‘success’. You have done what you were supposed to do. What your family, peers, teachers, lecturers, professional bodies and casual acquaintances thought you should do.

So why do you feel half full. Waiting and wondering when happiness is going to kick in. When does the joy happen? You’re walking the walk and talking the talk. You’ve done everything right to build a “good life”.

Or have you?

This life you have started building for yourself, your chosen profession and your 5 year plan….is this what you really want? Or is it what you think you should want. What you are supposed to want.

Did you go down this path motivated by passion and love or by fear? Were you fearful of being poor, letting family and teachers own or undefined career pathways? Did you think that being a responsible adult meant hiding away your true self. So you dimmed your light. And chose a sensible career. Everyone said yes, that will bring you security and financial independence and respect. These felt safe — and so that is how you played it.

But playing it safe isn’t sitting right with you. You sense something is missing. There is an incompleteness. You struggle with health issues that have started cropping up. You feel disconnected, trapped, broken.

I’m here to tell you, there is a way out.

All the times you made choices based on fear and what you thought you were supposed to do….they’re done.

From now on, you make your decisions based on love and what you truly want. What your heart and soul most desire. You will know that if you make choices based out of compassion for yourself that you will be supported.

And you will find joy. Sweet joy.

The world will open up to you and you will be overcome with a sense of freedom and ease. All those niggling problems you had, will dissolve away as you let your light shine again and sink a little deeper into your true self.

I know this because I have lived it. I’ve run the gauntlet and come out the other side. And it is wonderful here my dear friend — I would so love for you to join me. All you need to do is make a choice to start living the life you want.

Love and guiding paws,
