Do You Eat Meat for the Taste, or For The Kill?

I recently listened to How I Built This episode with the founder of Beyond Meat and it blew my mind.

Beyond Meat creates actual meat without the extra step of creating cows.

This sounds weird I know but think about it, the way we get meat is that a cow/chicken/salmon eats grass/seed, the cow/chicken/fish then converts that grass to protein and we then kill the cow/chicken/fish to eat the protein. That conversion is purely chemical which we can do in a lab. We can do it far more efficiently and just as well.

So if the reason why you eat the meat is for the taste then theoretically, how that feed became the protein you love is irrelevant. However, if it is weird for you but raising a conscious living and breathing animal in horrible conditions to then kill just so you can eat it doesn’t, then perhaps you are not eating it for the taste, but for the kill…

So I eat meat for the taste and I will now eat lab made meat because it saves animal lives and is better for the environment. By doing that I am not an asshole not only to the animal, but to the forests, to the environment and to the water supply. So now that there are ways to get meat without slaughtering animals or destroying the environment, what’s your excuse?
