2018 Draft Survey

Another successful MYL Classic Draftmas is in the books. Thank you all for coming and contributing to one of our most important traditions. Special thanks to Tico and Robin for hosting. Jasper is definitely up there with Tahoe as our best draft venue. Thank you all for being flexible and adapting to the last minute change to the Sleeperbot draft board. I think it did it’s job and it was definitely enhanced by the big screens. Thank you Ant for serving us that delicious bbq.

This is going to be an awesome season and another step in our great tradition. Having two more teams and an 8-team playoffs will add a new, fresh dimension to our league. I’m already seeing all the different variations of starting lineups being tried —from 1 RB/4 WR to 3 RB/2 RB and even the bold 2-tight end strategy. Can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

So, who’s year is it? Maybe Gordon. Maybe Felix. The league has spoken. Here are the results of our 2018 draft survey. — Commish

Grade the Sleeperbot draft board

A — I like living in the future. Let’s use it again (if big screen is available): 13

  • Anthony, Ben, Carl, Chris, Felix, Gordon, JR, Mark, Raph, Rommel, Ron, Ruel, Tico

C — It’s ok but needs to be worked out better: 2

  • Bryan, Jeff

What was your favorite pick of your own draft? What was one that you regret?

Ruel: Favorite — Julio Jones

Regret — Lamar Miller

Gordon: DeAndre Hopkins for sure. I think he ends the year as WR #1.

Chris Ivory. I’m predicting he is dropped in two weeks.

Ron: Thomas….cooks

JR: Gronk: he’s always a reminder to me to have fun with Fantasy a football. I was always a fan of him, but I only chose him for the first time 2 years ago and I won the 🏆. So being able to draft him 3 years in a row is a treat.

Regret: Nelson Agholor. Mainly because I took too much time thinking between him and Crowder… then Carl snags Crowder… I like him though

Chris: Favorite pick: Edelman

Ragrats: none but wish I drafted a better TE

Carl: Favorite: Joe Mixon — he’s going to have a breakout season

Regret: I don’t love my Cam and Evan Engram picks in the 6th-7th. I do like their values at those spots but I feel like I should’ve went for at least 1 more WR before they were all gone.

Anthony: Carson Wentz, he’s a projected top 5 pick I got late.

I regret taking Reed over Engram

Ben: Favorite pick was most definitely John Ross. No ragrats, but marshawn at that spot was least favorite

Felix: Mike Evans in the 2nd, didn’t think he would drop to me.

Meredith in the 8th

Tico: favorite: alex collins. draft target i was kinda high on

regret: sony michele. i dont hate the pick, just not someone i planned on drafting. might’ve went a different direction after seeing how the board played out.

Raph: Deshaun Watson. AP.

Bryan: Fav pick in my draft was passing on Drew Brees for Kerryon Johnson. It was very tempting, but Goff/Alex Smith/Mahomes/Mariota super late was the plan and I guess I’m more proud I resisted the temptation in the name of RB/WR depth.

Jeff: Favorite — gurley

Regret — getting Anthony miller early

Mark: Favorite pick was AJ in the 2nd. Regret Legarrette Blount for sure. Just picked him out of panic, and maybe Dez Bryant if he doesn’t sign with a team.

Rommel: David Johnson
Carlos Hyde

What was the reach of the draft?

Ruel: Josh Gordon

Gordon: Jimmy Graham. I liked him but guessed he was a 6–7 round pick.

Ron: Montgomery 6.4… Doyle 6.11

JR: Geronimo Allison… I actually agree with Bryan on this one (** almost threw up after saying that) I wasn’t particularly proud of my behavior in the 5th and 6th rounds. Should have used my extensions.

Chris: Dez in the 9th or Russel Wilson in the 3rd.

Carl: Geronimo Allison in the 6th round. I think that triggered everyone to start taking all the sleepers 2+ rounds early.

Anthony: Jimmy Graham

Ben: Didn’t think there was any real reach. Maybe Kelce.

Felix: Jimmy Graham in the 3rd

Tico: everything after the 2nd round since myl drafts are so unpredictable lol

Raph: Jimmy G

Bryan: I’ve told him this already: Kirk Cousins. QB7 in the 8th round. Similar guys were taken in rounds 12–14 IMHO.

Jeff: Anthony Miller

Mark: Reach for me was Larry Fitzgerald. Felt like he couldn’t been picked later.

Rommel: Doug Baldwin

What was the steal of the draft?

Ruel: OBJ

Gordon: Jamaal Williams. Green Bay’s starting RB in the 6th round?!

Ron: McCoy 4.13, crowder 5.11, aaron jones 9.11

JR: Easy. Hunt at 17

Chris: I think me getting Latavius in the 10th was a steal. Especially if the Vikings bring back Dalvin slowly.

Carl: Sony Michel in the 7th round. I would’ve taken him if I didn’t already have 3 RBs.

Anthony: TY Hilton

Ben: Brees in the 8th

Felix: DJ 6th overall

Tico: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Raph: Sony Michel

Bryan: Mike Evans at 2.14. I also like Evan Engram at 7.11. Both very solid value picks.

Jeff: Mike Evans

Mark: Josh Gordon.

Rommel: ODB

Who do you think had the best draft and why?

Ruel: Felix — WRs are great and solid RBs and TE

Gordon: Carl, Ruel, Tico, Felix, Chris. I just like the blend of players they have.

Ron: Tie- mark and Felix. Stacked

JR: Felix. Scary good WRs in the first 3 rounds + Meredith & Williams are solid. Followed by solid RBs.

Chris: Mark…feel like he made good choices/ things fell nicely into his picks. He has depth at WR and I think Jimmy Graham has a top 5 year. His running backs are serviceable that have good ppr upside.

Carl: Chris — If Jamaal Williams or Penny become feature backs and Edelman is back to his old self, Chris is gonna have a really nice squad. Gordon — Nice WR core + big gamble on McCoy but in the 4th could be a game winner if he plays the whole season

Anthony: Ben, lot of upside

Ben: Liking Tico’s team. Well rounded with decent depth

Felix: Chris — bless ‘em

Tico: i like felix’s draft

Raph: Ruel. This guy always knows what he’s doing. Tried to get us all drunk before the draft.

Bryan: For me, too 3 were Felix JR sand Carl, in that order. Loved the 3 WR approach by Felix, which included the SOD, and still ended up with a solid week 1 RB option in Burkhead. I also like Burton where he was drafted. JR’s TE heavy draft I like a lot but his WRs are kinda weak. Both Kelce and Gronk were tremendous values where they were drafted, but not having a target heavy true WR1 may make it difficult for him in weeks where the TE’s don’t score. our shortened rosters and his willingness to wheel and deal or just go #allinforfozzy makes me think this team is going to be good. Carl went with the Zero WR approach with 3 guys I really like this year. MG, Mixon and Drake have the chance to combine for 60 touches/game minimum all year. Super talented guys, but they all have o-lines ranked in the bottom half of the league according to PFF. Engram and Cam round our this roster as a team with difference makers at every position. Watch out for Brandin Cooks blowup weeks, especially when combined with the steady RB production.

Jeff: Carl, RB depth

Mark: Gordon. His WR corps and his backfield looking pretty good to me.

Rommel: Gordon, positions even out and still got players who I think are gonna up big numbers

Who was the Draftmas MVP?

Ruel: The printer

Gordon: Tico for living in a dope luxury apartment. Also Carl for manually putting everything in.

Ron: Tie- Ant+Tico+Carl

JR: Anthony. He had the 2nd best draft even though he was drunk + high + tired from preparing the meat the night before.

Ant’s BBQ

Chris: Anthony. Solid food. Also Anthony for giving up a tell on who he didn’t want me to draft….of course, I drafted those players anyway. I really was gonna go Kamara until that last moment.

Carl: Tico for hosting and Ant for the bbq!

Anthony: Tico for the host

Ben: Ant for comin thru with the bbq

Felix: Ant for the bbq, Tico for hosting, and Carl for commissioning again

Tico: Ant bae.

Raph: Tico/Robin for hosting. Commish Carl for the smooth 16 team expansion, cool t-shirts, and new draft board.

Bryan: Well Ant put in absolute work on the BBQ so I gotta go with that. Delicious. But UBAE was the real MVP.

Jeff: Carl and Tico

Mark: Tico for hosting, Carl for commissioning, and Ant for BBQing.

Rommel: Tico

Any early suggestions for venues for our draft next season?

Ruel: Local

Gordon: Hmmm I’ll think. Well see if my garage is capable of fitting everyone, but I have my doubts.

Ron: Puerto27 private upstairs room in Pacifica, CA. Also jasper if avail again

JR: Tahoe

Chris: Venue worked. I’d do it there again but the Siazon’s are moving.

Carl: Whoever has a new place by next draft

Anthony: Destination draft.

Ben: Jasper if it’s still an option

Felix: N/a

Tico: cant think of anything yet

Raph: Jasper if Tico is still living there lol. That’s prolly my fav place besides Tahoe.

Bryan: Brentwood. But I’d much rather Tahoe or Reno or SD or Sonoma or Napa or Graton or TopGolf. Something fun/interesting bc the draft as an event is getting stale. We should create a Party Planning Committee of some sort.

Jeff: Vegas

Mark: San Ramon clubhouse with a pool if people down to commute. Can chill at the house after.

Rommel: Whatever is available

Any other suggestions for next year’s draft?

Ruel: Drink closer to draft start

Gordon: Carl, just my opinion you need to free yourself up from all these small manual things. It is not fair to you drafting. At minimum maybe a FaceTime to ease everyone’s draft.

Ron: Hmmm not right now

JR: 1) get it catered (ie taco truck) 2) space for kids to run around and play 3) CJay, come through bro!!! 4) we all need to take a shot before it starts

Chris: I really liked the sleeper bot draft board. Instead of having someone type the picks, I think we could have everyone log into the app and they would be able to enter their own picks. But instead of having best available up, people are only allowed to have players in alphabetical order and not use best available function up.

Carl: CJ should come and draft live

Anthony: Shorter pick times after a certain round

Ben: More hard liquor, less beer.

Felix: N/a

Tico: lets finish all the beers next time?

Raph: T-shirts again. No more Jello shots.

Bryan: Kid friendly venues! Shuffleboard, movie room and Pokémon Go were clutch this year but we can do better..

Re: Sleeperbot
Loved it but I wonder if it would work as well without the monster display? Tico tells me they’re moving outta there soon so Jasper might be one and done? Even one 70” TV wouldn’t be big enough. 4 60” though?!

Jeff: On a Saturday please

Mark: San Ramon clubhouse with a pool if people down to commute. Can chill at the house after.

Rommel: None, happy to be part of it

How do you feel about switching MYL Classic to an auction draft?

Let’s do it!: 4 (Ruel, Ron, Ben, Bryan)

Open to the idea. Sell me on it.: 3 (Gordon, Carl, Jeff)

I’m down for whatever.: 1 (Rommel)

Not next year: 2 (Anthony, Felix)

NEVER!: 5 (JR, Chris, Tico, Raph, Mark)

What are your top 3 predictions for this season?

Ruel: 1. First time someone wins Classic and Auction same year. 2. All 3 new teams make the playoffs. 3. Triple crown winner

Gordon: I win my second championship. 49ers are a Wild Card team.

Ron: Njoku top 5 TE, Niners wild card

JR: (1) Felix wins it all. (2) Chris makes it to Finals vs Felix. (3) Ruel wins 100% of his trades.

Chris: Gordon gets married, a previous champion will win, football becomes more unwatchable with rule changes and political bs.

Carl: 49ers win the division. One of the top 2 seeds will get upset in the first rd. McCaffrey and Mixon will have breakout seasons.

Anthony: Hue Jackson fired midway through season. Niners go 10–6 for a wildcard spot. David Johnson is fantasy MVP

Ben: New MYL champ, niners finish .500 or >, All-play winner doesn’t lift the trophy

Felix: Broncos SB Champs, 9ers wildcard, new toilet bowl champion

Tico: myl champion will be someone who’s never won before

Raph: One of the bros will get engaged this holiday season. An ex-champ will win our league. The 49ers gonna come really close to getting a playoff spot.

Bryan: The Christmas party in Brentwood will be a coronation for the 2018 Toilet Bowl winner, Ant Carrera. SHAME. 8 team playoff will be an actual reason to get together in week 14, whereas in the past there were only 4 or 2 active teams in every playoff week. JR and Ruel will combine for > 12 trades this year

Jeff: New England won’t make it to the Super Bowl. Somebody new will be MYL champion.

Mark: Ron and Ruel will make the most trades, Carl makes the playoffs, next champ will be repeat champ.

Rommel: Aaron Rodgers MVP year. Saquan gets injured for the year. Felix wins the league.

Champions only

Who will win the championship this season?

Gordon: 4 (Ruel, Gordon, Carl, Mark)

Felix: 4 (Ron, JR, Tico, Rommel)

Ben: 2 (Anthony, Ben)

Ruel: 2 (Felix, Jeff)

Chris: 1 (Chris)

Raph: 1 (Raph)

Carl: 1 (Bryan)
