Are you tired of Dinosaur ABC books that feature all the obvious candidates — One is for Allosaurus, B is for Brachiosaurus, and so on? Well, this is an unpredictable ABC mirrored down on some obscure dinosaurs in prehistoric monsters, from Anatotitan to zupaysaurus. All the dinosaurs actually existed, and they all shed light on the much-needed day-to-day existence in Era Mesozoi. Just click the arrow on the right to get started!
There is a good explanation for how Anatotitan came by its name, which is the Greek for “giant duck.” First, this dinosaur was very large, measuring about 40 feet from head to tail and weighing more than five tons. And second, Anatotitan had a spacious, flat bill at the end of its snout, with which it used to dig the plants for its lunch and dinner. Anatotitan is a typical hadrosaur, or platypus, North America, where it lived about 70 million years ago.
Seventy years ago, the most famous cartoon character on the planet was a cute little deer named Bambi. Bambiraptor is much smaller than its name suggests — only about two feet long and five pounds — and it is also much more vicious, a raptor that hunts down and eats other dinosaurs. What’s really great about the bambiraptor is its skeleton discovered by a 14-year-old boy while walking in a national park in Montana!
The name Cryolophosaurus Ellioti means “crested lizard” — which refers to the fact that this carnivorous dinosaur lived in Antarctica, and that it had a prominent crest on top of its head. (Cryolophosaurus Ellioti doesn’t need to wear a sweater, though — 190 million years ago, Antarctica was a lot warmer than it is today) Fossil samples of Cryolophosaurus Ellioti have been nicknamed “Elvisaurus,” for it’s almost like rock-and-roll superstar Elvis Presley.
In 1970, archaeologists in Mongolia discovered, giant fossilized arms and hands of an unknown type of dinosaur. Deinocheirus -pronounced DIE-no-CARE-us — turned out to have a gentle, factory-munching, 15-legged “bird-mimicking” dinosaur closely related to the ornithomimus. (Why are so few deinocheirus left to explore? The rest of this individual would have been eaten by an even larger tyrannosaur!
The small eotyrannus lived 50 million years before more famous relatives like the Tyrannosaurus Rex — and at 15 feet and 500 pounds long, it’s also a lot smaller than its famous descendants. In fact, the early Cretaceous years eotyrannus were slender and graceful, with relatively long weapons and legs and grips, which to the untrained eye it might look like a giveaway. is lacking single, giant, curved claws on each of its hind legs).
The strangest dinosaurs that ever lived were “theriz Dinosaurs,” eating long clawed, small brains, and large belly plants that were mentioned in showy plumage. And Falcarius is a typical, equally quirky, reduced-diet theriz Dinosaur: although this dinosaur is closely related to predator tyrannosaurs and raptors, it appears to have spent most of its time munching. on the vegetation (and perhaps hidden very different creatures wouldn’t make fun of it).
