Gopal Datt: The Multi-Faceted Talent of Indian Web Series

What is common between all the viral web series on internet? If you are a fan of Indian web series, then this man isn’t unknown to you. From Pitchers to TVF Bachelors , to Arre’s Official Chukyagiri , he is right now almost everywhere in India’s rising web series series.

Actor, writer, lyricist. Gopal Datt is surely a powerhouse of talent. He has been in the industry for almost 17 years now. Unbelievable, isn’t it? Datt started as a theater artist in 1989 until he got his first starring role in Satish Kaushik’s Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai . He also went on to star in the blockbuster Tere Naam , Samrat & Co. and the National Award winning Filmistaan .

After his graduation, Datt enrolled into the National School of Drama, Delhi and has been involved in numerous stage acts. He has worked in Sanskrit to Greek dramas as well as Shakespearean to Italian and Parsi ones. In one of his interviews, he has admitted that he is addicted to the stage.

Datt has also been involved in writing for a long time. He has written a public service film called Holi, based on eye donation. He has also written Y-Films’ Anand Tiwari starrer Sex Chat with Pappu & Papa as well as a Rohan Sippy directed satirical short film called PrimeTime, starring himself and Kunal Roy Kapoor, which showcases how news channels discuss and develop various national issues.

Datt has also been involved with music. He has been writing songs since his theater days. Recently he has penned lyrics for movies like Budhia Singh: Born to Run and David . He is also involved in writing jingles for ad films. But this is not the end of his list of skills.

Ofcourse, we have all seen him in so many web-series. He has been actively involved with TVF since a very long time. He was exposed to the web medium through Nidhi Bisht, star of TVF’s Bisht, Please! and Datt’s old theater colleague. He took on various roles such as Rastogi in Pitchers , the antagonist in TVF Bachelors , Humorously Yours and was also seen in the first episode of Fathers. He has portrayed a variety of roles in their numerous videos and then he went on to expand his horizon by working with AIB in videos like Honest Bars and Restaurants, Unoffended. He also is a starring member of Arre’s Official Chukyagiri and Voot’s Badman .

Datt is now currently working in numerous working plays as well as with TVF in their latest season of Pitchers and is also involved in Rohit Karn Batra’s movie The Field, starring Brendan Fraser, Ronit Roy and Neeraj Kabi.

We are pretty sure we are never getting tired of his various roles as we rewatch all his videos again and again.
