The term “ableism” is used to describe discrimination and prejudice against people with disabilities. Ableism can be manifested in many ways, from segregated schools and workplaces to insensitive comments and name-calling. It can also take the form of an institutionalized belief that people with disabilities are inferior to those without. This institutionalized belief is known as an “ableist” belief.
