Macy’s uses a cashmere blend fabric on top and all other retailers use modal yarn. Because Macy’s was able to make this slight difference with the line, they are able to charge more. Really it’s a marketing trick. The word “cashmere” sounds more luxurious than “modal yarn” which makes the average consumer think that mattress is better than the rest. In reality modal yarn is stronger than the cashmere blend and therefore will last longer. When people hear the word cashmere, it seems like a great benefit however most people will not experience the feel of the cashmere outside of laying on it at the store because sheets will always cover it. So you can decide if the cashmere is worth the additional investment.
