A real psychrometric chart in white background

If you want to know the temperature data in each location, then you have to use the psychrometric chart. By using this chart, we can see the humidity, wet bulb temperature, and dry bulb temperature in each location. The chart is very messy when you are looking at it for the first time. Therefore, if anyone wants to use it, then the user has to learn how to use it. After learning, it is straightforward to use, and it is beneficial in calculations.

What is a psychrometric chart?

Before introducing the psychrometric chart, it is essential to identify the psychrometric process. It includes thermodynamic properties like dry and wet bulb temperatures, humidity, etc. The psychrometric chart graphically represents those data in one sheet.

Working on the psychrometric chart

We can’t use the psychrometric chart by own method. Therefore, it has two standard approaches. The first method is the plotting method. Let’s assume; there is some data point of the air condition at a specific time. First, these data should mark on the chart. Then there is an overlaid area called a “Comfort zone.” Generally, it considered as the range that satisfies the selected surrounding thermal condition. After plotting and identifying the comfort area, the necessary process is over. Now the chart will show the relationship between enthalpy, humidity, dry and wet bulb temperature, and the design strategies. It helps to identify the comfort zone extending concerning the passive design strategies. Mechanical engineers are mainly using the second method. They dynamically plotted the point of reaching air conditions and identified the process. By using this method, engineers can design the means to achieve the final product with respect to the inlet air condition. That means, which the engineers move the data point around the chart to find the air condition.

Representing information of the psychometric chart

There are some lines in the chart which indicates some air conditions. Temperature, relative humidity, Data Points, comfort zone, are the indications.

Interpreting the psychrometric chart

The psychrometric charts will give you a quick overview of air conditions. But, it relates to the security of the occupant. Therefore, it can make stubborn individual decisions.

Let’s consider the example to understand this.

Is your climate hot and humid, or cold and arid? How do your occupants feel? Too hot, too cold, or too relaxed most of the time?

Below are some common examples of such specific conclusions.

Build Strategies and psychrometric chart After learning how the environment reads on a psychrometric map. Therefore, you can use it to understand the techniques of environmental design. It will help to maximize the comfort of the occupants. When data points drop to the right of the comfort zone, you’ll want to lower the air temperature. Therefore, one potential technique can use to increase airflow with natural ventilation. As data points fall to the left of the comfort zone, you’ll want the air temperature to rise. A typical technique for doing this is to combine benefits from solar heat with high thermal mass content. If the relative humidity is too low, then evaporative cooling can increase it. And when it’s too high the use of desiccants will decrease.
