I’m lying in bed thinking and thoughts of the ideology socialism came into my head. Now socialism isn’t really any one thing, but all versions have to my mind one thing in common. That being control.

Life is chaotic. Life is uncontrolled. You can’t predict how life is going to turn out, all you can do is try to control it and hope it all works out. In as much as an adventure guide is a simulation of life, it’s going to be chaotic. But we need some measure of control or we get overwhelmed. Socialism is our attempt to control life. Story telling is our attempt to control what happens during play. Hence story telling in an RPG is a sort of socialism.

A stray thought really. How do you see it?
