Interesting Changes You Might Not Have Noticed at Walt Disney World
Though attendance this summer at Walt Disney World on the whole has been a bit on the lackluster side when compared with previous years, 2017 hasn’t exactly been a total bust either, with guests showing up in droves at Disney’s Animal Kingdom specifically to experience Pandora — The World of Avatar. However, even though things have been fairly average this summer, Disney has gone ahead and introduced a number of cuts and schedule modifications, some of which will be taking effect immediately, and others which will kick in later this year.
We actually reported on a few cuts earlier this month, but it looks like Disney isn’t done making trims to their operations. And the first cut is actually one that could affect resort guests sooner than later.
1. Disposable toiletries being removed from Walt Disney World hotels?
One tradition that many Walt Disney World resort guests enjoy is the ability to take some of their disposable unused H2O toiletries home with them after their stay. However, it looks like Walt Disney World may be cracking down on guests who abuse this practice in the near future. Several days ago a post appeared on the Coronado Spring Buzz Facebook page that showed giant H20 soap dispensers in a locked caddy that guests do not have access to.
Right now this setup has only been seen at Disney’s Port Orleans — Riverside resort, and this could just be a limited-time test. However, if Disney is really moving towards refillable dispensers inside of the showers found in guest rooms, this would be a big change for the resort as a whole, as disposable toiletries have been a staple of a Walt Disney World resort stay for decades. It is also unknown whether this potential change could affect value, moderate, or even deluxe level resorts.
And while Disney could say that this change is being made for environmentally-conscious reasons, it is more likely a cost-saving measure.
2. Express Transportation pulled from up charge lineup to make way for Minnie Vans
One of the most interesting up charges Disney introduced last year was the new Express Transportation ticket add-on, which allowed guests to pay a little extra to have a special VIP bus pick them up inside the theme parks and use backstage roads to get guests to their destinations faster than regular bus service.
However, it looks like after less than a year, Disney is discontinuing this option at the end of the month. The final day for guests to purchase the Express Transportation add-on.
Though Disney did not give an immediate reason for the cancellation of this service, the addition of the Minnie Vans service likely had a lot to do with this particular cut. You can read more about this here.
