It’s actually hard to understand racism at the gut level. It’s more like statistics meets the suburbs, and as smart as folks are, they rarely understand statistics and almost never understand probability. But that's a conversation for another day.
I like where Bridget is going here and wanted to add a few thoughts.
1. Fear and Loathing: The cops in these shootings seem to operate out of fear and draw their weapon too soon and use them prematurely. I think good cops don’t shoot first and ask questions later…..
2. Tragedy of the Commons: Today we seem to be in an age where we are unable to respect authority and all the good things it can do for society because of the fact that authority is so easily abused. Like so many things in society, those things that we are all supposed to benefit from, have been misused by only a few people but ends up ruining it for everyone.
