Magick in the Mundane
Following Up on My Earlier Post on Symbol Minded, I would like to delve into the realm of magick (with a K) and talk about someone I have identified as an up and coming Sorcerer.
Confucius said, “The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name.”
So what is this thing called Magick? Magick is anything that can motivate the will, either of ourselves or others, toward some action.
Common Conceptions of involves rituals and charms.
Rituals are a set of behaviors that have no causal relationship between the action and desired result. Prayer and Spell Casting are both examples for this. Neither one brings about a result. However, both give that practitioner a method for concentrating on the desired outcome. In Psychology, This is referred to as a self-fulfilling prophecy. We believe something to be true, so we take action to make it so.

Charms are items that are believed to bring about some results such as luck or good fortune. Such Talismans concretize our will and allow focus on our desire whenever our attention drift to them.

Grant Morrison, a comic book writer, is known for having to combine these two in what he calls a hyper sigil. A sigil being an artistic representation of one will, such as a logo or markings around spell work. A HyperSigil, according to Morrison, is an extended work of art with magical meaning and willpower.
He is also a practitioner of Chaos Magick.
From Wikipedia:
“Chaos magic, also spelled chaos magick, is a contemporary magical practice which emphasizes the pragmatic use of belief systems and the creation of new and unorthodox methods.”

Grant Morrison is known for works such as The Filth and The Invisibles. Grant considers the Invisibles a hyper sigil and his critics draw direct connections with the creation of the Matrix series with the tropes that released into the collective conscious. That trope being that ‘We live in a world where systems outside of our control are manipulating our thoughts and perspectives to the benefit of a select few.’ And While you cannot escape the system, you can make yourself aware of the manipulations.
And if this connection is true, then Morrison did achieve the outcome of his work.

Red Pilling is a thing now.
But Grant Morrison is not the sorcerer I want to talk about. That person is Taylor Pearson.
“But I just looked this guy up, and he does not seem into that magical,” you say.

Well, I will make my case on how Pearson is, in fact, a practitioner of Magick and That though his blog and courses he has turned his book, “The End of Jobs” into a hyper sigil.
Pearson comes an interesting back ground; he used to be a devout socialist being influenced by Marx and Jared Diamond.
After some years, he came to consider how technology had changed some aspects of the world since Marx’s time. Many ventures are now open to people via the internet that was unreachable in Marx’s time. Anyone with a laptop now can start a media company. You can use private label a product and set up distribution and sourcing with a click of a button without any overhead cost.
Pearson’s started re-evaluating his assumptions about the world
“Looking down at my internet-connected, $800 laptop, I saw those were no longer a factor. I could write a blog post that could be read by millions. The tools of production and distribution were now cheap.
We are living through the dusk of the Industrial economy and the dawn of the Entrepreneurial Era.
I still think Marx was right about the problem: not having self-determination, that is not being able to exercise agency and control over your life, sucks. It turns out he was wrong about the solution.
It is the power of technology, not a political movement like communism, that is giving individuals the opportunity to chart their path, to seek out their frontier. “
- Taylor Pearson
Short After this realization, Pearson started studying Entrepreneurship and working with businesses.
During Each Business Venture, he would create a Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for lines of work. He would iterate and improve the SOPs and then publish. Other people following Pearson would then use these and then provide feedback, further iterating the SOP.
So how is this Magick?
All of Person’s work is devoted to one cause, expanding personal autonomy and self-determination. He consecrated this desire in his book “The End of Jobs” and has extended his will to everyone that practices his SOPs. This extended work culminates in a hyper sigil that has many practitioners adding to it power and influence
What is Taylor Magick Trying to achieve? It takes some reading, but Taylor points this out on his about page. “
“The problem: not having self-determination, that is not being able to exercise agency and control over your life, sucks.”
If Morrison’s hyper sigil is to expand the human consciousness about the world, Pearson’s hyper sigil is to expanded our self-determination in the world.
