It’s a bit like being a grandma — I have a nine-month-old granddaughter and I can’t pass a vintage clothing store without looking at little-girl dresses. (As a feminist, I swore I would never do that, but she’s so adorable.)

On a more practical note, my son-in-law’s uncle contributes $100 to a 529 every month for each of his great-nephews and his great-niece. I think that’s awesome. I assume some of my retirement savings will go to pay off my grandkids’ student loans, and an inheritance from my mother paid off my daughter’s loans. We need to smooth the path for that next generation.
