What keeps you up at night?
“We all have something unique, beautiful, and truly special we can share with the world”
Perhaps that question is a little too vague. Let’s be more specific.
What excites you? What passions does your mind drift to while you lie awake at night; or while you commute; or sit in class?
What are you building? Creating? Giving back?
If you knew you wouldn’t fail, where would you invest your time & your energy?
I firmly believe that we all have great potential within us to make this world a little, or maybe a lot, better than it is today.
We all have something unique, beautiful, and truly special we can share with the world. But, for so many of us, likely the majority of us, we squander those opportunities.
We binge watch the latest show. We double tap and swipe left & right. We give up on our passions, or never seek them in the first place.
“What if you could find that intersection between passion, need, and our natural proclivities?”
What if you could find your purpose? What if you could find that intersection between passion, need, and our natural proclivities? What if you could find the niche of people where your unique talents and experiences resonate most?
If you could find that, it just might change your life. And beyond that, it may make a meaningful, and lasting impact on the world around you.
“If you can find and explore the answers to those questions you may never be the same again.”
This could be building the next big thing. Or it could be raising a family, teaching, farming. It could be all of those things. It could be anything. It doesn’t even have to make sense.
You can’t always see or know how you are making a difference.
But even so, I think if you search for purpose openly, and wholeheartedly, that, in and of itself, can influence those around you. As you strive to follow your passions, and improve the world around you, others maybe be inspired to do the same.
But you have to look. You have to take the first step.
So how do we find this alignment of values and purpose?
I can’t say when, where, or even if, you might find it, but a good place to start searching is in silence. In solitude. When the world around you slows; when you turn inward and honestly examine your heart, your desires, the world around you; what do you find?
Have you ever asked yourself “what do I want most?” or “where do I fill most engaged, happy, impactful?”
If you can find and explore the answers to those questions you may never be the same again.
You might seek these answers in nature; or through meditation; or a practice of daily journaling; or perhaps through counseling. You might stumble across the answer during the most exotic of worldly vacations or in the most mundane of daily commutes.
The important thing is to be open to the search. If you aren’t practicing some honest self-reflection and looking for these opportunities to make an impact, they will pass you by.
So…What keeps you up at night?
What secret passion project have you not started? What need does your heart cry out to fill? Where do you think you can make a difference?
And what will the world look like when you’re done?
