Solar Energy today

Currently in the world of solar energy, the Solar Impulse is making its round-the-world trip on just solar power! More recently though they have been grounded due to technical difficulties.

Musician, Akon, recently made a large investment into Africa’s Solar industry in hopes to light up the continent. Solar Panel Academy, one of Akon’s investments, is attempting to teach the people how to utilize solar panels to expand its usage throughout the continent.

Perovskites have been making news as a new source of low-cost, high efficiency materials used in solar panel cells. A few more years and they will be a new class of solar panels in itself.

Solar power is not only powering airplanes, boats, cars, and various other things around the world, but it is also powering a new way to desalinate water from the ocean to be used for growing farms. One project currently in the marking is utilizing green energy to grow, vegetate, and produce biofuels in the desert. One of their projects is aiming at the reforestation of the Sahara Desert, known as the Sahara Forest Project.
