Salted Egg Chicken and Tofu

Someone requested me to make a savory dish and this is it! This dish is my fav because it’s sooo rich and umami hmm I’m drooling just imagining it. Especially for you salted egg huge fans, you guys should try making this!

This is quite simple to make and the ingredients are easy to find. It consists of 3 parts, making the salted egg sauce, frying the chicken and tofu, and combining it.So here it is I hope you like it ;)

My delicious salted egg chicken and tofu, might not look that pretty but it is delicious.

Cooking time: 30–40 mins

Servings: 3–4 people


Salted egg sauce

  1. 2 cloves of garlic, mince it
  2. 4 salted egg yolk, mash it as fine as possible
  3. 4 tbsp oil

Fried Chicken and Tofu

  1. 1/4 kg boneless chicken thigh or breast, dice it about 3x3cm
  2. 1 pack of tofu, dice it about 3x3cm
  3. 150 gr potato starch (tapioca flour)
  4. 1 egg
  5. 2 tsp salt and pepper each, to marinade the chicken and tofu(1tsp each) and to season the flour (1 tsp each)
  6. oil for deep frying

Other ingredients

  1. 4 chillis (you can add for spicier taste, and subtract for less spicy taste)
  2. salt and paper to taste


Salted Egg Sauce

  1. Pour oil to the pan with medium-low heat (I suggest you use a non-stick pan, it’ll be easier to mix)
  2. Wait until it’s hot enough (you can know it by putting your hand above the pan, if it’s hot then the oil is too)
  3. Put in the garlic, stir until it become fragrant.
  4. Put in the mashed salted egg yolks, mix until well incorporated and foamy
  5. Put it aside in a bowl while you cook the chicken and tofu

It’ll be so delicious that you can eat it on its own! You can eat it as a topping sauce with rice, or as a dipping sauce.

Fried Chicken and Tofu

  1. Marinade the chicken: put the diced chicken in a bowl, give it a pinch of salt and pepper, mix it and let it sit for 5–10 minutes. The longer it sits, the tastier it’ll get.
  2. Marinade the tofu: prepare a bowl with about 200 ml water, put salt and pepper into the water, mix well, put in the tofu, let it sit for 5–10 minutes, and then drain it. Don’t put it too long, it’ll absorb the salt more and get too salty.
  3. Prepare the flour in a bowl, put in the salt and pepper to season.
  4. Pour the flour to the chicken and tofu, mix carefully until it coats all of it.
  5. Mix an egg, pour about 2 tbsp into the chicken and 2 tbsp to the tofu, mix until well coated.
  6. Prepare the frying pan and the oil with medium-high heat.
  7. Coat the chicken and tofu with flour in separate bowl evenly.
  8. Deep-fry until golden brown, drain and set aside.

Combining the two ingredients!

  1. Put oil in a non-stick pan (that you previously used for the sauce), heat with medium-low.
  2. Wait until it’s hot enough (you can know it by putting your hand above the pan, if it’s hot then the oil is too)
  3. Put in the chillis, stir until it becomes fragrant.
  4. Put in the sauce, mix well until foamy.
  5. Taste it using a spoon, add salt and pepper according to your own preference until it’s seasoned enough and tasty.
  6. Put in the fried chicken and tofu, mix until all of it well coated.
  7. There it is your salted egg chicken and tofu is ready to be served and enjoyed!
