Jago Last Wish for Peaceful Life — UX Case Study
“This project is part of the UI/UX training program implemented by Skilvul (skilvul.com), for Kampus Merdeka program held by Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi Republik Indonesia. Bank Jago is the Challenge Partner. I am not working for nor contracted professionally by Bank Jago.”
About Bank Jago
Bank Jago is a digital financial service that focuses on the centric daily life of users, with the largest ecosystem network in Indonesia. There are many kinds of problems in a person’s daily life, but there are financial products that are used to fulfill these needs. At Jago, although their main business is financial products, they understand that from the user’s perspective what they think about is not the financial product, but the end goal. Therefore, when we wanted to create a savings product, Jago did not stop with just creating a digital account feature, but also thought about integration into services that could provide the goods or services that users need. So that everything becomes easy and smooth, for everyday life, future dreams, and activities with friends and family.
Problem That Trying to Solve
If we look at the life insurance products that are currently on the market, usually these products are sold as a form of prevention from disasters or bad things that will happen in the future. In addition, life insurance is also usually used to protect the livelihood of families who are supported through livelihoods before the time of death. This is quite serious considering that not everyone has planned for the future. One possibility why people don’t do it is because they want to be more optimistic and less negative (because the future gets scary).
With so much involved in making a letter of wishes, that’s why it’s sometimes so and inefficient that people are too lazy and don’t make it ready and fun. That is why a digital letter of wishes, whose contents can be anything want to do and the funding for its implementation can be guaranteed by the insurance product behind it.
The Team
Our team consists of 3 UI/UX Designers. We all share the same responsibility in handling this project as UI/UX designers through all of its processes. But we have a different focus of expertise responsibilities in making this project easier. Some of the descriptions of my responsibilities are as follows:
Design Process and Result
Design process using Design Thinking, and the following are each stage carried out and the results obtained from each stage
1 - Emphathize and Define
For Resources Data and information, we got all of that from :
- Challenge Partner(Bank Jago) Briefing
- Secondary Research: Journal, Article, Government Infographic
After that, build a User Persona that contains several important points that keep us focused on a specific user problem and needs. And also to clearly describe who the potential users who will use this feature will be and what problems they have experienced so far according to the research that has been done.
2 — Ideate and Focus Solution
How Might We Statement
So the whole problem that trying to solve is :
How might we build the solution to give peace of mind of users that their loved ones are taken care of in the event of their untimely death with life insurance in happiness way?
How might we build the solution to planning for death with Letter of Wishes with something inspiring, optimistic, sincere, fun and easy to change negative preception about death?
Conduct the brainstorming to make solutions for the problems, and also decide what idea that can do first, it’s called Prioritazion Idea. After taking the Ideate session, we know what focused solution we try to execute first.
So, some of the points that are the main focus of the value of the Last wishes bank feature, which we want to build first are :
3 — Design Solution
UI Design Preparation
- User Flow, will help us to look in more detail about what page is a necessary need and can be implied into our design.
- Color Style, we use the color that matches on Bank Jago apps
- Font Style, Clarity, and simplicity is the key to our finance application to be, so we decided to go with these two font.
- Icon Style, Bank Jago is very flexible and has a user-friendly approach, for that we feel that this free icon based on figma community is very suitable
- Design System Atom and Molecule, of course, this is needed for the consistency of the application design and simplify the design process
Design Solution
1.Calculator Magic(Kalkulator Premi)
As a calculation tool and recommendation for the user in determining the sum insured and premi to be paid, so that it is in accordance with the conditions and life style of the user
2. Assurance Package(Paket Asuransi)
There are several choices of insurance options based on these recommendations that the user can choose for himself or his family
3. Letter of Wish/Surat Wasiat Digital
A feature to write a letter of wish online with an attractive design interaction and fast processing
4. Challenge and Mission
Several missions that can be carried out by users as a form of Bank Jago’s loyalty to users who want and have registered insurance or letter of wish
5. Gamification
Interesting illustrations that describe the progress or activities of users when they have insurance or a letter of wish
4 —Prototype
The results of all the execution of ideas and menus that you want to build in the Last Wish feature are integrated into the Prototype. You can try it here
5 — Test and Evaluation
The stage is to test the solution in the form of a prototype that has been made to potential users who are also those who have previously conducted User Research. Before doing the Testing, it is also necessary to make some preparations, such as Scenario Testing, Question Lists, and also Record Documents which are useful for recording feedback from users. In this test, we use SEQ (Single Ease Question) to measure ease of use with 3 scenarios.
- Try Kalkulator Ajaib
- Make Life Assurance
- Make Wasiat/Last Wish
In terms of SEQ the result is 6/7, which means that every task performed is “Easy” to do. In addition, usability testing is also useful for getting detailed feedback from users. Some things to note for later evaluation and improving the experience of this application, they provide feedback as follows
Regarding the icon, the contrast is somewhat the same as the one at the beginning, so it’s a little confusing
Can you give information regarding the selection of the type of will because sometimes, people don’t know for sure
Evaluation
Based on user feedback, here are the design improvements
1- Change the icon for a more consistent UI design
2 - Further information regarding the type letter of wish, described on Ecyclopedia so that users can understand the type of product well
Conclusion
I feel very honored to be able to do a UX Case Study with Challenge Partner Bank Jago. This is a very new thing to take a case related to financial apps, so I also need to learn a lot about how a will and insurance works in a conventional manner and how the current situation is, of course it is needed to make a prototype product that fits the needs of the user.
What did I learn?
Sometimes, designing the application is something that is really challenging. And if work as time, the timeline and job desk must be clear too. Lots of things that need to be considered, besides the aesthetic and interesting design appearance.
And the design which in my opinion is good and can meet the needs of the user, it turns out that there are also some things related to the details that previously could not be found as a UI/UX Designer, but the user can find it and provide feedback so that we can learn. For this reason, usability testing and design evaluation are important.
As Mark Parker (CEO and shoe designer of Nike) says :
Design is an iterative process. One idea often builds on another.
