This post continues the one about the 23rd of January and the cold wave that hit Nanjing.
So, after visiting the Jiming temple, we went to the lake next to it. It’s a huge lake with great views and, on that day, lots of ice!
It’s really close to the temple and just across the city wall. There are several small islands connected by bridges and the day was quite spectacular:
I think the path of the park goes for several kilometres along the islands and the lake. There are also small boats for rental, but they seemed closed on this cold morning.
In the spring I will return and take more photos, since with all the tress and scenery, it must look great on a clear day.
As a backdrop during the promenade, you can see all the high rise buildings of Nanjing.
The one on the left is the same that appears in some of the Jiming temple photos and it’s the highest one currently in the city, home to the Intercontinental hotel.
In the islands there where some nice parks and ponds, completely frozen. I wonder if there were carps there, as is typical in chinese gardens, but I couldn’t find any trace…
Anyway, after this walk we were close to lunch time and the cold was taking its toll, so we decided to skip the rest of the islands and paths and go eat something.
They took us to a Hongkonese restaurant close by. Funny thing, the restaurant had small bridges and canals (around 20 cm wide) with little fishes swimming.
I think this was our first time with food from this region and everything was delicious, one of the best meals so far in China!
After enjoying all this food, we went to the center of the city again, to the Confucious temple area.
We stopped to grab a coffee and continued to a small area of brick houses, full of little shops and restaurants. I think it was called Lou Man Do or something like that, I need to check it up for next visits.
This whole area was really nice and getting lost in the streets was a pleasure.
We didn’t end up buying anything, but maybe next time.
After all the walking and with the cold day, it was time to get back to the hotel, and later going to the swimming pool.
