Unfortunate that so many of us (myself included to be frank) are intensely skeptical of feedback from people who we think may have some sort of vested interest (by being an author for a book on the topic). Really sucks because as you mentioned, an expert is the person most likely to have valuable information to share (which often results in a book). Seems like we need a better way to handle this perceived conflict so that we aren’t hostile to people like you who add great advice.
In any case, I recently participated in the execution of a series of interviews (I am not in HR)as a topical expert and I cringed when reading the original article because some of the content I was guided to use definitely felt analogous to the experience described. I asked some questions which seemed hopelessly out of context with the range of activities which the candidate was expected to be familiar with as part of the role.
