Don’t just #prayforaleppo! Aleppo needs prayers, but prayers without action won’t be effective

While you are getting ready for the holidays, thousands of innocent children are being bombarded in Aleppo. While you are sipping your morning Starbucks latte, thousands of children are dying of hunger; the money you spent on that latte could feed a whole family for an entire week in Africa. While you spend hundreds of dollars on leather boots and cashmere sweater, street children in Afghanistan are freezing to death.

I’m not here to preach or to tell you not to enjoy your life. You deserve to live as best as you possibly can. With that said, you owe it to yourself to become more aware of what’s going on in the rest of the world. You must burst your beautiful bubble, and peak into the lives of those who are struggling. Don’t just like posts on Aleppo, donate to one of the following NGOs.

Aleppo needs prayers, but prayers without action won’t be effective.

Man is, by nature, self-serving. But the same man, would be offended on being accused or even remotely associated with self-centeredness. So I understand that this post may offend some of you. I wish there was an easier way to tell you to care without sounding preachy or even condescending. But the sad truth is that other than the few usual people who seem to care and always are speaking up, I witness more self-absorbed posts on Facebook and Instagram than posts on the massacres in Aleppo, on the millions of refugees stuck in camps and in Greece, and the millions of needy Afghans inside Afghanistan who live under the poverty line.

Our world is broken, and so many people are hurt and need your help. Try to care. Maybe start with putting aside $5.00 a week, and donate it to a charity of your choice. It’s a small step to put you on the right path of seeing beyond you and your wants.
