The Andela Experience: Day 3

The sailing has been tough, the going has been becoming tougher and tougher but I chose to hold on and arrived for my Andela boot camp for the third day. Early as usual, I had not taken my plum test so after the breakfast I went straight to the boot camp room and took my plum test. Then I had to publish my medium blog then a group of people started arriving one after the other and within no time it was 9.00 am the most exciting part of being in Andela, the work out. The games are always both exciting and mind engaging. There is always a moral lesson behind every game apart from the fun that comes with it. There is also mingling, meeting and interacting with the fellows already in the fellowship and learning from them. There are a nice lot.

The coding part today was fun and easy when it came to dealing with loops. Nanda who was our tutor, he is a good tutor, interactive asks so much questions and makes sure everyone participates. The part concerning the loops is easy and everyone was participating a lot. It went well and everyone seemed to be enjoying me included. I made sure I keep consistence with what was being taught some which I knew and some which I had no idea. The args and the kwargs were an interesting bit.

Then we went for lunch, a fellow joined us. He was a true definition of funny. He told us about his pancake cooing story and that’s one thing I love about Andela. The way people interact with each other. Nobody is the boss or the tutor here every one is a fellow and a friend. This is the only organization where all people say hey to each other even if they don’t know each other. The experience is challenging and humbling at the same time.

The afternoon session began well, the tutor was Nanda assisted by Gikera and Collins. The topic was Object oriented programming in Python. Every basic concept of object oriented programming was explained, from what a class is to the basic concepts of object oriented programming which includes inheritance, polymorphism and abstraction. We also learnt about import and how different it is from inheritance in object oriented programming.

We ended the day with inspiration from Proff Nanda. He told us about his Facebook interview story, it was funny but also inspiring. He told us how Facebook developers spotted him on GitHub and encouraged us to code daily to develop and build our careers in software and development and the opportunities out there for every girl developer in big companies. We left the office at around 7 in the evening, knowing more than we knew inspired and challenged by other fellows. The experience is just getting busier, better and engaging. Looking forward to more learning.
