Part Two: “This Pinterest Aesthetic Says This About You.”

ROCKSTAR’S GIRLFRIEND.

Everyone can live out the cheesy fanfiction dream. You may or may not actually be in the position of being the lover of a rockstar. If you are, you simply created a revolution of more powerful women to admire. The epitome of it all is that it doesn’t embarrass you to have that title or perceive to feel less despite the criticism headed in your direction.

Lace slip dresses found in all shades of the rainbow in your tiny closet, leather blazers, chains of necklaces, mood rings on every finger, and knee-high boots being worn. They’ve summed up your night outs at small venues where your boyfriend/girlfriend’s band plays. Every week on a Friday night, you’ve witnessed hearing all the indie songs written about you. The type of songs that make fans crave the relationship you have or fall for you. Dyed hair is your entitlement to how much you seek adventure in your weekend nightlife. Around your left wrist is your Canon digital camera, while your mini purse clings to your right arm. Capturing your pride for the ones on stage forces you to realize how deeply in love you are.

Your love for that person begins with 9 AM off-key serenades of David Bowie to Genesis to The Smiths. The Psychedelic Furs to Pet Shop Boys. Jack’s Mannequin to Cigarettes After Sex. Two souls slow-dancing around the kitchen. That fondness ends when the clock hits 2 AM, the hour of your drunk friends finding the key under the mat and stumbling into your house. There’s no problem gathered from it, as you’ve both grown to be used to the chaos. Only infatuation. They’ve engraved photographs of these moments on your camera roll and bedroom wall.

The band is your adoration. The music is never lasting. Your beloved is your muse. For those who can’t identify, it’s okay. Many of us understand. We just rely on our fantasies.

MERMAID CORE.

Your inner little mermaid or aquamarine has emulated the dream of having a platinum aqua tail with sparkling seamless bra tops, swimming yourself to the deep blue sea. You’ve taken childhood imagination into your daily lifestyle. Summer expands fascination in 85° weather, with a slight breeze. Frolicking in beach water wearing long cotton white dresses that drag in liquid sand. It’s chilly yet refreshing to get your skin. Waves crashing against rocks like sounds of white noise filling the atmosphere. Your comfort relies on the ocean. Accessories made of tiny shells and starfish lie along your favorite jewelry box. Hair clips grasping on the outskirts of your tucked-back hair. Moonlight glitter sprinkled across your rosy cheeks, while your crystal eyeshadow compliments your daily aesthetic. Sade and Mitski soothe your craving to embrace yourself floating in the ocean, the breeze dancing across your figure, the sight of the sunset creeping over clouds. No shoes, no stress, just the existence of a person’s serenity.

CORPORATE GIRL.

Workload romanticization?

Your virtue has become glamorizing the office lifestyle, despite working for the man every day. You’ve alternated your inner self-consciousness for employment. Your wardrobe caters to collared button-up shirts, high-waisted trousers, and heels comfortable enough for excruciating hours. A coffee from Starbucks is a must-need, accompanied by your laptop. Vogue magazines stacked in the Saint Lauren bag that was gifted to you. The city consumes your ‘grind’ mentality. The Devil Wears Prada and The Hating Game play a role in encouraging your knowledge in the average workplace. Keep in mind, you won’t have a Miranda Priestly… and surely no romantic encounters with co-workers (remember, this is a job you want to keep!). Enough of traveling in your own car, your taxi driver fulfills the lack of cramping through overpopulated areas. Days and nights, empowered is the word that creates positivity for the negative equanimity. Your social media platforms feed the vision of corporate life in terms that channel your inner girl boss.

OLDEST DAUGHTER.

Business suits with sneakers. Sloppy journals you’ve written since the youngest was born and you couldn’t vent to adults anymore are now stored away under the wooden floor in your bedroom, planted in a box. Your interactions with them come with the territory of overwhelming emotions. Loneliness isn’t a stranger to you, nor is it an often friend that comforts you in your adult years.

You consist immensely of:

  • Salads with any vegetable on the list, including Mediterranean beans.
  • Downtown apartments could elevate the crowds, honking cars, and blaring street lights, but you wouldn’t change a thing. Eve Babitz and Nora Ephton’s films dictate your visions of adulthood, simplifying it, in fact.
  • Warm coffee or no coffee.
  • You and your friends’ conversation about the latest devastation in your relationships.
  • Expensive attire, inexpensive longings.
  • You are gentle, not soft-spoken.
  • A hard worker, but not reliant on constant hustle.
  • Emotional attachment to people who listen to Chet Baker Vinyls.
