The COVID-19 pandemic has moved us all to live under strict conditions for an uncertain amount of time, but people from all over have been making things a little more bearable by going live on Instagram.

The spread of the virus is at an all time high in the US and new regulations have been put in place in all states to “flatten the curve.” Home quarantine guidance is being advised to people all around the globe and social distancing has become a new norm. Though we cannot meet with each other in person for some time, people have been getting creative with ways they can bring the community together, especially many musicians.

Celebrities have taken advantage of their platform to reach fans all around the world, not just to spread messages regarding the virus, but also to entertain. One of the most popular “shows” is Tory Lanez’ Quarantine Radio. Lanez has had countless celebrity guests on his live video including Drake, Chris Brown, T-Pain and even DMX. His live has attracted as many as 310,000 viewers at once, the new record for Instagram live viewers. Lanez has also invited many fans onto his live to show off some rather explicit…dance moves. Other celebrities like John Legend have also encouraged fans with a virtual concert series, Together, At Home. Artists like Drake and Kid Cudi have even previewed unreleased music over Instagram live.

DJ’s from all around have been dropping sets through live so fans can party in the comfort of their own home. DJ D-Nice’s “Club Quarantine” live attracted viewers like Drake, Oprah, Michelle Obama and even Joe Biden, while DJ Sisko’s live encouraged many CashApp donations that went towards helping families in need during the pandemic. Even local DJ’s have gone live to bring their communities together with scheduled shows and themed evenings. Battles among producers like Timbaland and Swizz Beats have also sprouted and are keeping fans engaged. Celebrities are also keeping their fans entertained through music in a sillier way like the Shakespearean reciting of Roddy Rich’s lyrics to “The Box” by Doja Cat.

While keeping their distance, celebrities too are showing us that they can do their part in staying home, yet still bring fans together through entertainment. With deaths already reaching the mid 20,000s in the US, we must all do our part in social distancing and remember that we are all in this together.
