Day 2

A most emotional day

Today was my boss’ last day. He’s shifted to a competitor,as is the norm in the consulting world when you’re getting too comfortable with your salary. So we had a little get together for him, a short sweet event at 1830 hours in the cafeteria. We ended up sitting till 2205,16 people telling one guy how much of an impact he’s had on their lives, and him reciprocating the gesture with what he’d loved the most in each person.

For a little background, my boss was one of the good guys. Old school, and wicked smart. He loved it if you argued with him,and he was the best intellectual sparring partner you can ask for. And yet, he knew how to have fun with the soldiers and the capos alike. I’ve known him for 4 months, and he had that aura about him. A nice guy overall.

The farewell event was a emotional event for most of the people with us, for they’d known him for 3 years. The end of an era, they called it.It was a very heartwarming moment, something I’d rarely seen in the consulting arena.

In the end, I think I’ll miss having such a good professional mentor so early in my career.
