Shutting Down The Third Eye

A simple and easy way to check and expose the mid-brain/third-eye activation humbug

“The first and worst of all frauds is to cheat one’s self. All sin is easy after that” – Pearl Bailey

I had barely settled in my seat and was preparing for the flight to take off, when my wife leaned over from the adjoining aisle seat and handed over the JetWings – the inflight Magazine of Jet Airways. It was the Numerology page forecasting the future for anybody that cared a read. But that is not what Vishakha was drawing my attention to. The author’s bio read “Numerologist and Vastu consultant with activated Third Eye”!

I immediately took a snapshot and posted a tweet to @jetairways asking them for a comment. While others replied, Jet Airways has been conspicuously silent on this tweet.

It was not like I did not know what this “activated third eye” was referring to, but that I was appalled that even a company like Jet Airways would implicitly support one of the largest scams to have hit India.

Going by two primary names, the Mid-Brain / Third-Eye Activation programmes are being offered to young kids–mostly aged between 5 and 12–to enable them to open their third eye or activate their mid-brains and be super kids.

If the various private run-by-night operators were not enough, we have many of the established godmen and yoga gurus (including Art Of Living’s Intuition Process and Nithyananda’s Inner Awakening) joining in to rake in the molar that accompanies any programme that supposedly helps young children develop special abilities to help them along in the highly competitive world.

I have in the past written extensivelyon this scam that coerces children to lie to everybody including their parents and also espoused the theory that people have an inherent need to be fooled.

Today, I wish to share a simple and most easy way in which anybody – let alone a magician – should be able to trap those claiming to have the powers to see and read with their eyes closed. Who knows? Perhaps you will be even able to help them to finally open their eyes!

But before that, you may want to watch a few demonstrations… they are indeed impressive and to the uninitiated look so real.

Impressive demonstrations those, aren’t they?

Little surprise then that everybody from parents to school authorities to media persons are proving their gullibility and helping perpetrate the scam on so many more. If only more people spoke to or involved magicians in such discussions – for what is at play is no superhuman power but an old magic trick performed by magicians the world over for centuries.

Yet it is rather easy to nip this scam at the bud. If you want to, that is. The next time anybody claims their mid-brain or third eye is activated ask to see a demonstration. They will proceed to blindfold themselves and show you some incredible feat. Enjoy it like you were watching a magic show.

Once they have proven that they can indeed see or read things even with their eyes closed under the blindfold, you are all set to bring this demo to a sudden end.

Ask them to use the cloth not to blindfold themselves, but to cover the book or page that they are reading.

That’s it. Really! Instead of using a cloth or any other material around their eyes to prove they are shutting it, you use the same material to completely cover the object at play. Watch them get flustered and suddenly not be able to read or see anything. This moment would be akin to bringing some kryptonite near Superman and draining his powers.

But the real reason their superpowers fail soon as the book is covered by the cloth is because they don’t have any. And you are preventing them from looking down their nose under the guise of being blindfolded.

Have fun using kryptonite for the greater good.

I am.
