I wrote a post years ago (https://medium.com/@naman12345/my-transition-from-developer-to-consultant-82b1ef3a89b6) about why I was transitioning to a position away from development and into consulting.

The post I wrote years ago entailed what any new hire, fresh out of college, would learn from the workforce. You are put into categories or buckets so that they can bill you at different rates. The way I saw it at the time was that there was technical focused careers and business oriented careers. I wanted to tackle both. The more I have been exposed in the industry the more I believe the technical route will draw circles around the business oriented careers. You do need both but not at the level you would expect.

In the world of consulting, based off my experience the business oriented professionals have a motive which is not to the betterment of society, it is purely financial. Well, to me that can only take you so far. Technical oriented professionals have a hunt for the single greatest thing on our planet, knowledge. What I have learned is when you hunt for knowledge the financial incentives will somehow align. Folks that I see hunting for money just fade away or eventually fail. It is a short term thought that potentially could take you no where. Others that put in the work and strive to better their skillsets have a base foundation to fall back. They are able to strive in…
