Unmarried Motherhood in Nigeria: the International Passport edition
OluTimehin Adegbeye

Quite interesting read! Asking for a marriage certificate is quite a ridiculous stretch. Asking for prove that you have your husband’s last name is even more ridiculous for obvious reasons. I am married and I still use my maiden name because I want to. The only part I can say they got right was asking for a letter of consent from the child’s father — international child abduction laws require this. I just applied for a passport for my daughter (USA) and it was one of the many requirements here, and I completely understand why that is necessary. I hope they work with you on getting your child’s passport.
