WHY THE QUALITY OF HEALTHCARE IN NIGERIA KEEP DEGENERATING
I was sick and rush down to the hospital, all my face full of makeup with my heels,(all looking on fleek). Hoping I was rushing to where I could get proper care and hope not to die. Instead, those that were supposed to render the care where all concerned about my makeup and heels. They rendered my hope hopeless while busy gisting. Do I need to start explaining to them that I was hale and healthy this morning? I was feeling uncomfortable few hours ago and I decided to rush to the hospital. Do I need to be judged by the way I look? Those whose face was not painted are still there unattended to. They were not concerned about how we all felt.
After 30minutes of uninterrupted gist, they finally decided to help…”Help” when they are supposed to “cater”. A Healthcare personnel saying “who send dem message”. I thought they have been certified both in morals and professionalism. Why will they say they love caring for people when they don’t. The only people they care for is their family and those that will tip them when leaving.
A woman in labor rush to the hospital for care once she screams, they insult her who send you when you were doing it were you not enjoying it, For God sake, do I need to remind them that the pain of labor is more than the pain of being thrown into fire alive. No Healthcare personnel will dare say that abroad.
An accident patient rushed to the hospital, instead of them to think of how to save his life, they are concerned about money. That was how a corp member lost his life in a well-known hospital in Lagos. The situations are countless.
Day by Day, the quality of health care rendered to patients in Nigeria keeps degenerating. Politicians, Millionaires build hospitals yet they can’t use it. They still fly abroad for medical attention. Why?
Do we lack good equipment?
Are the hospitals not well structured? This affects our hospitals but the major problem is the unconcerned, unconscious, unapologetic, unemotional, saucy, nonchalant, undertrained manpower that mane most hospitals.
They are meant to give us hope, they make us hopeless.
They are meant to treat us, they underrate us.
They are meant to talk less, they are talkative.
This is Nigeria where you dare not remind a healthcare personnel about your right to quality health care. Oh!!! that means you want to remain in the hospital unattended to.
They are not eager to learn more.
They make us fearful, instead of making us feel.
For this situation to change, we have to start from the scratch healthcare personnel should have empathy, not sympathy our governments should do more on providing quality equipment. There should be proper monitoring and evaluation of those equipment provided. A parent should not force their child(ren) to e what they don’t want. Let them pursue their passion.
