Tammy blew another stream of vapor from her marijuana pen into the humid Arizona summer air. Sweat trickled down every inch of her body, clothed and unclothed. The cover of heat masked any nervous reactions she might have been having.

She didn’t feel nervous as she watched seven of her cities so-called finest mingle around the hood of a squad car like a water cooler. What on earth they could be discussing was entirely different from what they should be discussing. But who was she to point out their ineptitude?

Just another trophy wife to a rich man who’d been missing for twenty-four hours.

Tammy took another hit from the electronic pipe, filling her lungs to capacity. She let small puffs escape through her lips, taking care not to start a coughing fit and disrupt the private cop only conversation taking place in the middle of the wide, tree-lined and shaded street in front of her home.

The earthy flavor of the vapor added a different pleasurable element to getting high. But not as much as the thrill of doing it with law enforcement standing so close by.

The curtain covering a neighbors front room picture window moved back, allowing those inside to see out. From her spot on the steps of her massive stone and wood front porch, all Tammy could see between the fabric was black.
