Some Thoughts on Net Neutrality

Many thanks, for helping me understand where we currently are with the question of whether ISPs should be classified as common carriers. It’s a complicated issue that I don’t pretend to understand, but beyond doubt the term “net neutrality” has done a magnificent job of swaying public opinion without much understanding of what that should mean in terms of policy.

It reminds me of a public initiative on the ballot that essentially rewrote the county general plan to severely restrict how rural landowners could use their property, essentially unenforceable. On the ballot, it was phrased as “Do you support preserving open space blah blah blah…” Sure, who wouldn’t vote for that?
