Sunshine on a cloudy day

A storm front moved through yesterday. A blustery, rainy storm front.

While my husband was having his chest cracked and a leaky valve replaced in the OR, I sat in the waiting room watching the fast-moving clouds and the sheets of rain. My family and I sat nestled against the wall yet within view of the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The sun pushed through the clouds, rays randomly lighting up the ground and trees as the rain continued. Raindrops on their leaves glistened in the bright light. Enchanting.

The sun pulled me out of my cushy chair. I moved to the windows and watched, amazed as I always am when there is sun and rain together. It energized and encouraged me. The sun hid behind the clouds again, and I returned to my chair where I dozed off.

“There’s the surgeon,” my sister said. I opened my eyes to see him walking up. His eye-squinting smile said it all.
