I totally get it. My job includes dealing with the public constantly — like every day, on the phone, in person, in writing — whatever. I find that I have to gauge each person’s level of understanding before I can speak to them at a level that the person can understand. It probably helps that I have a wide variety of experience with different cultures, age in years, a little bit of communicating in different languages ( although my language understanding is “muy porquito” or “xiao xiao” , I try and keep trying, it is all you can do sometimes.
