Camp to meet deaf families with deaf and hearing children
— Written by Ronice Müller de Quadros
The 5º Koda camp occurred on 17 and 18 January 2020, in south Brazil, in the city of Capão da Canoa, Rio Grande do Sul. The event was a success!
The Koda camp had 45 children of different ages, from babies to young under 18s old, of which 40 were hearing children and 5 were deaf children.
The kids enjoyed it so much. They had various activities and games. One of the games the children had fun was the pool game. The organisation prepared and bring special games for children to have fun at the event. It was amazing!
This is 5º meeting, organised by Deaf parents.
The event was focused on all children of Deaf Adults, both hearing and deaf people. Deaf parents decided to do this event annually to make it possible for their children to meet other deaf families with deaf and hearing children.
All activities were arranged by Deaf people and it was entirely in Brazilian Sign Language — Libras. The deaf parents invited Ronice Müller de Quadros to talk about biographies of Codas. She is a professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, also she is a daughter of deaf parents, Coda.
