There are lines and paragraphs throughout that caused me to pause and nod in agreement. I laughed, I cried, I texted my friends to all buy it so we can spend hours discussing it. The pearls of wisdom are written in such a disarming way that you can approach them without feeling the confrontation of someone else’s experience pushed onto you.

To Shake The Sleeping Self — A Journey by Jedidiah Jenkins

I followed Jed on instagram since 2015 and I was so excited when I learned that he would be publishing the book he talked so much about. I just completed his tale and what an interesting journey it was. As someone who has lived on the road as a nomad for most of a year, I really resonate with so much of his story. The long days, the monotony, how the journey becomes life. It isn’t vacation. His honesty about his journey, his sexuality, and his journey to understand god and his role in god’s world, was really inviting. This book felt like I was reading his diary.

I often find it hard to get through any kind of inspirational or “self-help” books because I hate when people preach to me. However, this book I finished within days of starting it — I literally could not put it down! Jedidiah is one of the best writers of our time and he so beautifully puts onto page what most of us can’t find words to say. This book is about not only his physical journey across the world but also about his spiritual and emotional journey to find himself. It really hit home with me and I ended the book sobbing at the last few pages of discovery. I highly recommend checking out Jed’s book asap.
