A Bachelor Breakup Bombshell

Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell, who got engaged on season 20 of The Bachelor, have officially split up. In a joint statement, the couple says, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways. We wish nothing but the best for each other and ask for your support and understanding at this time.”

There is an extra level of heartbreak that comes with a Bachelor breakup because the whole world watched the love story unfold. From the moment Lauren stepped out of the limo, to the day her and Ben got engaged, it looked like a fairy tale. We all felt the magic, we were all there on their one on one dates, but apparently there were a lot of hard times we didn’t get to see.

In “Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?”, the couple’s lives were documented as they navigated life after ‘The Bachelor’. It was evident from this mini series that both Ben and Lauren were deeply in love, but also working through some struggles. It seemed like Ben still had that idea of being “unlovable” in the back of his head, causing hesitancy in the relationship, while Lauren was excited to start the wedding planning as soon as possible.

This conflict caused some serious strife between the two love birds, and even caused them to postpone the wedding temporarily. With “The Bachelor” running the timeline on their love story up to that point, it wasn’t a huge red flag to think they might want to do some wedding planning on their own terms. However, it looks like the wedding planning is done for good now. *tear*

None of us can really know what went wrong in the relationship, but we can hope that both Ben and Lauren are both happier now, and in a good place. Hopefully my broken heart will be mended by season 13 of “The Bachelorette”, which airs Monday, May 22 on ABC.
