So I recently binge watched all six seasons of Gossip Girl and I must say, I was obsessed. I fell in love with the characters and their own personal love stories and struggles. After the series finale I couldn’t help but feel like I wanted to watch the whole series over again. This made me wonder, what made me love this show so much? Was it the idea of an outsider looking in, the desperate attempts of trying to make it in a world you know you don’t belong to, or the fact that you suddenly find yourself rooting for characters that you have every right to hate? So I ask myself the question: how? How do so many people sit through six seasons, 121 episodes of a show and still feel like they want more.
“Welcome back upper East siders. Gossip girl here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite.”
And maybe that’s what it was. “Manhattans elite”. Rich people, private school, beautiful outfits and parties…what’s not to love? Gossip Girl takes a city like New York and makes it a lifestyle. Who knew a city could become so glamorous and appealing?
“And who am I? That’s one secret I’ll never tell. You know you love me. XOXO Gossip Girl”
What made me love the spoiled brat from New York who had a passion for scheming, take downs, and being queen B? Yes, I am talking about the one and only Blair Waldorf! Although I do admit that she was evil, manipulative, and ruthless at times, something about her was still admirable. The fact that she had a group of minions at her disposal was impressive, but there is something else about the essence of Blair Waldorf that makes everyone want more.
She ran her private school Constance by instilling the fear of a Blair Waldorf take down in students. However, we quickly come to learn that Blair is a fighter. She won’t take no for an answer and if she wants something she’s going the get it. Blair Waldorf is undeniably respectable because of her passion and persistence. Although moral judgment is hindered at times, have no fear for Dorotea is here.
As for Chuck, he started out as the typical bad boy that everyone could hate. But as his feelings for Blair grew, so did his deniability.
“Three words, eight letters, say it and I’m yours”
One of the most memorable quotes of Gossip Girl is when Blair says this line to Chuck. And what happens you ask? She walks away without her answer! Thus starting the endless back and forth of chuck and Blair’s love story…and my undeniable addiction to Gossip Girl. XOXO
