KONDA REDDY BURUJU, Kurnool
Konda Reddy Buruju, as the name of Kurnool suggests, is the only Fort that shines in front of our feet. It is located in the heart of the city of Kurnool. If you climb this tower and you will see the most beautiful city.
Konda Reddy Buruju History
The Konda Reddy fort is one of the four forts on the four sides of the Kurnool Castle. Only the Konda Reddy Buruju is still intact and the other three got ruin.
One of the three ruined forts is located near Victory Talkies, also known as the Red Tower. The name comes from the fact that it is made of red stone. We can see many pictures on the red tower walls. The other two towers are adjacent to the Tunga Bhadra River. Soldiers guard the Kurnool to prevent the enemy from crossing the river.
There are no inscriptions or texts stating who built the Konda Reddy Fort, when built and how it got its name. That is why there is so much confusion among historians about these things.

History:
Prior to the reign of Sri Krishna Devaraya, King Tuluva Veera Narasimha Rayulu ruled the Vijayanagaram. Between 104 and 106 AD, the Kurnool castle and Konda Reddy Buruju is gifted to Ara Veedu Rama Raju by Tuluva Veera Narasimha Rayalu. The story is written in the book ” A History of South India”.
Yusuf Adil Khan, Sultan of Bijapur, crossed the Tungabhadra River to Invaded the Kurnool. At this time, Ara Veedu Rama Raju helps to Turuva Veera Narasimha Rayulu to fight against Bijapur Sultan. The Vijayanagara King defeated the Bijapur Sultan and conquered Adoni and captured. With this, the King give the Kurnool Kingdom as a gift to Ara Veedu Rama Raju. Some believe that the Konda Reddy Buruju could have been built in his time. Moreover, But many historians say that Achutha Devarayalu the brother of Sri Krishna Devaraya built the Kurnool Konda Reddy Buruju in between 1529–1549. Its original name of this fort is Achutha Devaraya Buruju. This is just an opinion. However, there is no doubt that the Konda Reddy Buruju was built during the Vijayanagara period.
