A reading challenge is always a great way to direct your reading — by setting a goal for the number of books you want to read or by giving you prompts to try and achieve throughout the year. This new challenge is a mix of both!

I read 60 books in 2023, just enough to fulfil my reading challenge for the year. It wasn’t easy, and I must admit to reading two short books in the last week to reach my goal. But I did it. I read over 18,600 pages this year, an average of 310 pages per book! Although not all books were amazing, I did pretty well overall, with over 45 books rated three stars or higher.

What didn’t go as well, though, was how diverse my reading was. Or rather, how it wasn’t. I only read authors from seven different countries. That almost seems reasonable until you realise that I only read one book from each nationality for most of them, and most of those were originally published in English anyway… Meanwhile, I read 54 books written by American or British writers! Don’t get me wrong, I love American and British writers, but I would like more diversity on my shelf!

So, I created a reading challenge for 2024!

The challenge
